Patron Saint of equality, justice, the underrepresented, and dissent. Representing the determined, disciplined, and polite.

Ruth Bader Ginsburg (1933-2020) was known for her fiery dissents, intense workouts, and love of opera. She served as a Supreme Court Justice from 1993 until her death in 2020. More than simply a member of the court, Ginsburg was a cultural and feminist icon of the 20th and 21st centuries. She fought during her lifetime against discrimination on the basis of sex. Despite experiencing gender discrimination throughout her life, she blazed trails as the first female member of the Harvard Law Review, co-founder of the ACLU’s Women’s Rights Project, the first female tenured professor at Columbia Law School, and the second women on the Supreme Court.

This work was created in response to Ginsburg’s passing and was the inspiration for the Saints & Sinners Series, which includes representations of contemporary figures as defined by their accomplishments, both awe-inspiring and awful.
